Chapter 10 - Managing Behavior

Follow With Labeled Praise

It is important to Praise your child for following the instruction. If you do that, it is more likely that he will follow your instruction the next time. We all like to be praised for the things that we do.

Examples

No Praise Labeled Praise

You say "Bring me your shoe."

Your child gets his/her shoe.

You say nothing more.

You say "Bring me your shoe."

Your child gets his/her shoe.

You say: "Thank you for bringing me your shoe."
