Chapter 2 - Taking Turns

How do I let my child know it's his/her turn to talk?

  • A natural way to prompt your child to talk is to pause.
  • Pausing for one or two seconds after a child talks might prompt even more language!
  • You can pause and look directly at your child so he/she knows that you are waiting for him/her to say something.
  • You can pause and touch your child so he/she knows you are waiting for him/her to talk.
