Chapter 3 - Encouraging Conversations

How can I encourage my child in a conversation?

It is important to be really positive with your child as he/she is learning to use language to communicate. You can be positive in several ways.

You can use your face, your eyes, and your voice

  • Smile
  • Look at your child with a happy face.
  • Use a gentle voice.

You can use praise often! Visit our Printout Page for a Printout of Ways to Praise Your Child.

You can listen carefully and "catch your child" using language. Then use your basic conversational skills, your words to listen, and your words to teach. AND PRAISE.

You will learn more about how to Praise in Chapter 5 - Praising Your Child
