Chapter 5 - Praising Your Child

Introduction

You are the most important person in your child's life. The attention you give your child is more meaningful and powerful than any toy, activity, food or drink. In order to make the most of your relationship with your child you need to use positive statements that encourage him/her to continue to stay with you in a pleasant way. It is recommended that within a conversation with your child, at least half of your statements are positive or praise statements. Most parents will need to actively pay attention to their child's behavior and then begin to recognize what is positive. Then you might need to write positive statements that would correspond to those behaviors so that you remember to say them in interactions with your child.
