Chapter 6 - Questions that Teach

Introduction

The kinds of questions you ask can either open the door for your child to talk more or close the door to talking. The right kinds of questions can encourage your child to use longer sentences, to use more kinds of words and to express more ideas. However, you shouldn't ever use too many questions. Too many questions decreases the balance between you and your child and could discourage your child from staying with you and from talking because they feel "tested".
