Open Questions
Questions are requests for information. Open questions
usually start with 'What', 'Where', 'When', 'Who', 'Why'
or 'How'. An open question requires your child to tell you
something using specific words in a phrase or sentence rather
in a one word answer. An open question asks for information
that you do not already have. Open questions help you follow
your child's lead in play. Open questions encourage talking
and idea sharing from your child. Open questions are a good
way to get a conversation started.
Examples:
"What should we cook?"
"What color do you want to use?"
"What should we draw next?"
"What is your picture about?"
"Who did you see at school today?"
"Where should I put the baby?"
"Tell me about the party."
