Chapter 6 - Questions that Teach

When Should You Ask Questions?

A good time to use questions with your child is when you really don't know the answer and you want more information. When you ask the question, give your child plenty of time to answer so that you get the information you want. You should allow at least 5 seconds for your child to understand the question and to form his/her answer.

When your child is not talking, an open question is a good way to get the conversation started.
