Chapter 9 - Arranging the Environment
Catch Your Child Being Good!
Whenever you notice your child doing anything that you
like and that you would like him/her to continue, make sure
that you let him/her know. Use specific
feedback. This is the best way to make sure that your
child continues to behave in positive ways. This is not
really altering the environment. It is noticing what is
positive in your child's environment and accepting it so
that the good behavior will continue.
Examples:
"You're playing so nicely with me today!"
"I like the way you're sharing the toy."
"I like the way you asked me for help."
"It's really fun playing with you!"
"You're making a great picture."
"Thank you for cleaning up your toys."
"You made that horse all by your self!"
"You helped me put everything away."
"It's so nice that you're reading so quietly."
"Thank you for keeping your toys in the play room today."
