Toddlers Example 1
Amanda is 2 years old and one of her objectives is to label
body parts. Her teacher uses commenting. She uses both parallel
talk and self talk. Amanda hears the labels for several body parts
while she holds the doll.

Because Camille doesn't like the feel of certain materials, her
objective is to manipulate materials of
different textures. The teacher uses commenting, full physical
help, and partial physical help to help Camille practice her objective.
She also uses choices and asks Camille to choose between two items.

Each written example below describes a child and objective. Can
you identify which intervention
strategies could be used with toddlers in these situations?
1. Carrie is 28 months old. She is interested in toys and has several
favorites. She uses very few words. Her objective is to
say new words.
2. Tyson is 32 months, has little vision, and does not move around
very much. His family is good at interpreting what he wants and
they typically guide him from place to place or get him what he
needs. His objective is to move from the
play area to the kitchen in the home of another family that cares
for him three mornings a week.
